Andrew Steggall introducing his film, Departure, at a special British Council supported screening at the 2016 Mardi Gras Film Festival

The 23rd annual Queer Screen Mardi Gras Film Festival came to Sydney between 18 February and 3 March 2016. The Mardi Gras Film Festival is one of Australia’s largest film festivals of any kind, and one of the top five queer film festivals in the world.

The Festival included 75 different sessions, with something for everyone. Our top picks were (obviously!) some of the British films: Lady in the Van, Hockney and Departure.

We were pleased to support a special screening of Departure in Sydney on Sunday 28 February 2016, which included an introduction from the film's British director, Andrew Steggall.

Departure is a visually spectacular delight which tells the story of Beatrice (Juliet Stevenson) and her son Elliott (Alex Lawther), who flee to their holiday house in France. You can watch a trailer of the film here and listen to a radio interview that Andrew did with local Sydney radio station 2ser here
